Harassment

Harassment is a common crime.  It is usually charged as a petty misdemeanor, with up to 30 days in jail.  Typical forms of harassment under the statute are:

  • Crank calls to someone's house
  • Shoving someone, but not causing them pain or injury
  • Challenging someone to fight

Sometimes there are First Amendment issues with a Harassment case, because it can penalize a person for their speech.
