Misdemeanors

Misdemeanor crimes are those with a maximum possible jail time of one year or less.  A closely related category is petty misdemeanors, which have a maximum of six months in jail.  In Hawaii, most petty misdemeanors carry up to 30 days in jail.  A person has the right to a jury trial in misdemeanor cases, and they don't in petty misdemeanors.

Here is a brief description of some of the more common misdemeanor crimes.
